What is an Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV)? – Definition & Meaning

Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) are driverless transport systems that move along predetermined paths. They follow induction loops, magnetic strips, optical markings such as reflectors or colored lines, or QR codes. Unlike autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), they are less flexible because they cannot react autonomously to obstacles and other changes in their environment.

This makes them primarily suitable for work in intralogistics, where predictable, structured processes are used.
