What is an autonomous mobile robot (AMR)? – Definition & meaning

An autonomous mobile robot (AMR) is a self-driving, intelligent vehicle. It moves without external control and fixed performance structures such as rails or magnetic strips and can therefore move freely. Special technologies such as LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), cameras and SLAM (Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping) are used to dynamically capture the environment. This enables reliable route planning and the avoidance of obstacles in real time.
