What is swarm robotics? – Definition, meaning & function

Swarm robotics is a field of research and application in which several autonomously operating robots work together, modelled on natural swarms (e.g. ants, birds), to solve even complex tasks. The robots communicate with each other and make decisions independently, so no central control is necessary. In logistics, swarm robotics could be used, for example, to optimise warehouse movements, distribute tasks dynamically or respond flexibly to failures. The advantages are scalability, reliability and high flexibility.
