VDA 5050 is a communication standard for mobile robots. The interface was developed by the VDA (German Association of the Automotive Industry) and the VDMA (German Engineering Federation). It defines a uniform interface for controlling and coordinating driverless transport vehicles (FTF) and autonomous mobile robots (AMR) via a central control system. The aim is to enable devices from different manufacturers to be coordinated and monitored via the same infrastructure and to communicate with each other. VDA 5050 regulates, among other things, the transmission of orders, status data, map information and events. The standard is increasingly being implemented in smart factory and Industry 4.0 scenarios.
